Substitute Teachers

River Grove: A Marine Area Community School is looking for two- and five-year short-call substitute teachers to cover daily absences of members of our Teaching Team. We are also looking for long-term substitute teachers for possible vacancies.

Requirements:

A teaching license, a lifetime substitute teacher license, or short-call substitute teaching license through the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and a criminal background check. From the MDE: “A [two-year] short-call substitute license authorizes the license holder to replace the same teacher of record for no more than 15 consecutive school days. A short-call substitute license is valid for up to three years and expires on June 30 of the expiration year.” (Reference)

To obtain a two-year short-call substitute license, you must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university. The license may be used in any subject and/or grade level.

A five-year, short-call substitute teacher may replace the same teacher for 16 or more consecutive days. You must have a bachelor’s degree and complete an approved teacher preparation program for a five-year license.

Please see the MDE website and Minnesota Statues for more information on licensing.
