Marine Area Community School will utilize the natural resources, history, arts, and civic stewardship of the community to create and sustain a student-centered, teacher-designed, and community-supported learning environment.


River Grove is a public charter school serving students in grades K-6, located in the beautiful Wilder Forest. Our incredible campus setting, on 73 acres of wooded and lake property, is utilized on a daily basis to provide a unique learning program that emphasizes the outdoors and place-based learning. Project-based learning is incorporated in each classroom.


The Custodian will provide cleaning and maintenance duties to the River Grove Campus. This position serves as the primary custodian and maintenance to ensure the highest quality is consistent with River Grove’s standards. This position will work under the Facilities and Nutrition Supervisor and will be responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of River Grove School District. 


  1. Experience in custodial or maintenance
  2. Experience in Charter School custodial or maintenance, but not required
  3. Handyman skills or the ability to fix or install shelves etc. 
  4. Interest in outdoor education
  5. English language proficiency, both spoken and written


  1. Keeps buildings clean and in orderly condition 
    1. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors
    2. Gathers and empties trash in all building
    3. Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities
    4. Performs routine maintenance activities
    5. Performs heavy cleaning duties
  2. Facilities
    1. Clears snow from walk paths and steps down to the playground area
    2. Salt down for slippery walk paths
    3. Overall cleanliness of campus
    4. Ensure students and staff can access class environments
    5. Ensure equipment and materials work properly 
  3. Supplies
    1. Maintain cleaning supply inventory
    2. Maintain the organization of the cleaning closets in each building
    3. Communicate when cleaning supplies are needed
  4. Facilities
    1. Paint picnic tables (yearly)
    2. Remove everything from the garage, clean, put junk in the dumpster, reorganize (do twice a year).  
    3. Put equipment away from outdoor classrooms before snow (canopies, chairs, etc).  
    4. “Blue box” storage: clean, organize.

    6. Support the movement and cleaning of classroom location transfers.
    7. Communicate work orders for Wilder for anything on campus that needs to be fixed to the Business Manager.
    8. Complete the staff facility requests.

This position requires vocal communication, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, use of hands to grasp and feel, and vision abilities including close, distance, and adjusting focus. Lifting/moving required frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds or more. Work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and is generally in a moderately noisy location.
